Cable marking

Cable marking includes marking media and the means of creating text. Plan them as one system, starting with the objects, symbols and attachment method in the specific installation. When adding to an existing distribution board, also establish the marking scheme already used to prepare consistent labels for new positions.

From the diagram to the designations required

Prepare a list of conductors, cables and other items to be marked. Record the label text and where it will be placed. For ready-made signs, holders and media, open cable markers and labels. For a device to create the labels, continue to label printers. This separation helps establish whether you need a consumable for an existing system or are selecting a new system for the whole project.

Compare the placement method

For pre-printed markers, check the required characters, repetitions and intended holder. For a feed-through marker, match the stated application to the conductor data. For a self-adhesive version, clarify the surface and conditions of use. For printable tubing, check dimensions and compatibility with the specific printer. These are separate choices; do not assume the same application for every product bearing the general name cable marking. Also check the space in which the marking must remain visible.

Check the printer and consumables together

If you already have a device, start with its exact model and permitted media. For a new choice, prepare sample labels and formats required, then compare capabilities in the documentation. The category includes products from LEGRAND, WAGO and BRADY, but a shared brand does not confirm interchangeability across all systems. Check the full reference of the tape, cartridge, holder or other medium and the supply unit described.

Quantities according to the marked positions

Count the labels and repetitions on the diagram, separate the required accessories and read the pack contents. For more than one format, retain a separate list for each printer or media family. If the cables themselves are also being selected, coordinate the data with cables and connections. Finally, check the relationship between designation, physical position and selected medium. This way, the order list follows the actual installation and allows later additions of precisely specified consumables.
