Fire detection and alarm systems

For fire detection and alarm systems, components are selected according to the specific system and site project. Distinguish a detector, manual call point, module, sounder and mounting accessory before comparing references: an identical brand does not mean shared compatibility across all product families.

Check the system and component role

The category includes addressable and wireless designations, different sensor types and signalling devices. Establish the exact item type and supported system. For replacement, retain the existing product's full designation, generation and corresponding technical documentation. A similar shape or approximate reference match is insufficient for substitution.

An example of a specifically defined function

Morley-IAS MI-D2ICMOE is an addressable module with two inputs, one relay output and a built-in short-circuit isolator. These characteristics apply to the exact module and do not make it universal for all Honeywell systems. Check compatibility with the corresponding system, protocol and loop; an isolator alone does not determine the characteristics of the finished installation.

When choosing a detector, consider the intended use and operating conditions of the specific model. For a base, attachment or other addition, expressly check the permitted combinations. Do not assume that all parts shown in an assembled unit image are included in the package. Check mounting format and dimensions separately from system compatibility.

Separate related tasks

For detecting gas events, continue to Gas detection. For another function in the fire protection design, explore Fire suppression and fire barriers. Their general safety purpose does not mean individual devices are interchangeable or form a complete system without checking the design.

Offers from HONEYWELL and AJAX can be browsed by manufacturer; general guidance is in Fire and gas safety. Prepare a list of exact models, purpose, system, power supply, mounting parts and quantities. Compare it with the design and requirements for each item. Selection then remains verifiable by specific components without promises of protective range, building compliance or results inferred solely from the commercial title.
