Choosing a dimmer starts with the lamps and desired control. A rotary mechanism, a version with app-based settings and a series designation describe different aspects of the purchase. A similar appearance or the marking LED does not establish that a combination will work compatibly.

Check the lamp and dimmer as a combination

LEDVANCE publishes separate compatibility lists for dimmers and electronic control gear. These are different checks. For a LED replacement in an existing luminaire, distinguish which element remains in the system and the exact model to which the relevant list applies; one confirmation does not replace the other.

Do not compare dimmers solely by the largest title number. Read different load type designations separately and check official documentation. For specific lamps, seek explicit confirmation that they are dimmable and the chosen dimmer applies to that combination. The general "LED" name is insufficient.

Manual control and app-based settings

Clarify how you want to change lighting in daily use: with a knob or settings from a phone. When considering DIMAX 540 app B, check the exact app, supported operating system and connection requirements. Do not transfer these capabilities to other dimmers simply because they share the same section.

If retaining the last level matters, include it as a separate question for the specific mechanism. Before buying, also clarify the need for a neutral conductor and intended control method in the manufacturer's instructions. A suitable specialist must match the existing installation to these requirements; choosing a faceplate does not resolve the electrical side.

Mechanism, series and finished appearance
