Outdoor lighting

Choose outdoor lighting by the individual zones around the building and routes. Allocate tasks between façade and garden fittings, floodlights and street luminaires, then check the specific mounting and lighting variant.

Different locations lead to different groups

For positions on the building and in the garden, start with garden and facade lighting. If the project requires a floodlighting solution, browse floodlights. For a luminaire on a designated pole or another suitable support, check street luminaires. This division helps prepare lists with different installation conditions instead of choosing all luminaires solely by a general outdoor-use designation.

Prepare the zone details

For each location, record the area to be lit, where the fitting can be placed and the power supply planned. Check dimensions, fixings and service access for the exact model. For a separate lamp, specify the lampholder and whether the light source is included; select the lamps required in lamps and light sources. Do not assume identical package contents for different fittings, even when photographs show a similar lighting solution.

Compare lighting measures separately

Luminous flux describes the amount of visible light emitted, while power describes consumption. Use colour temperature for the shade of white light. None of these measures alone determines illuminance across the entire area. Compare data for the specific fitting with its positioning and project requirements. For a shared visible area, check the selected lighting variants and how they are controlled in sequence.

In an overall layout, separate locations for continuous lighting from those with specifically planned controls. Each reference can then be checked against its own task and conditions without transferring functions from one item to another.

Check protection for the exact installation

Compare site conditions with the selected product's documentation. The digits in IP concern protection against solid objects and dust and against water respectively. The designation does not verify resistance to chemicals, UV or impact. Check cable entries and accessories required without transferring a characteristic from one enclosure to any combination with other parts. For sensor control, establish the specific version's functions.

Finally, create one mounting position per fitting, lighting variant, accessories and quantity. The EMOS collection provides an additional overview by manufacturer, while lighting is a starting point if the design combines outdoor and indoor areas with different requirements.
