Plugs and trailing sockets

Choosing a plug or coupler has two sides: compatibility with the mating product and requirements for the cable or equipment. Prepare data for both to avoid choosing a component that looks suitable but has a different purpose.

Determine what needs connecting

Specify whether you need a plug, trailing socket, cap or finished product with cable. This category includes domestic and industrial designations and accessories. Check the specific item's role before comparing dimensions. A cap for a particular plug is not a connection set, and a similar housing does not certify an identical contact configuration.

For the counterpart, record exact model, socket type and documentation designations. Check configuration, voltage, permissible parameters and mechanical compatibility of the chosen component. Colour helps searching but does not replace checking. Do not determine suitability solely from a front-view photograph.

Also check the cable side

Consider permissible cable, connection dimensions and specific product construction. For a component with separate accessories, check included parts and those selected additionally. For a spare part, establish its series and compatibility with the retained housing. These details matter even when the counterpart connector looks familiar. Choosing a cable end involves more than the visible contact shape.

Where the name specifies a special version or protection, use the technical documentation for the exact reference and its conditions of use. Do not extend a characteristic to any assembly with a different mating part. To compare with broader industrial solutions, explore offers from SCAME, checking every component independently.

Ready-made cable or adapter for another system

If you need a complete solution for reaching equipment, go to Extension leads and cable reels. For adaptation when travelling, use Travel adapters. The general Power strips and extension leads section separates these tasks. Before ordering, compare the mating reference, cable, purpose and required accessories. This distinguishes replacing a component from choosing a ready-made connection or adapter.
