Electrical supplies are chosen as parts of a specific solution: a new socket beside the desk, replacement switches in a room, a planned cable route or equipping a distribution board. The visible detail is often only the start of the list. At Latrand, these tasks bring together switches and outlets, electrical equipment, cables, installation materials, power supplies and measuring equipment. A useful starting point is what already exists at the location and exactly what needs to be added or replaced.

Switches and sockets: faceplate, mechanism and location

When refreshing an interior, colour matters, but first establish the range and the components that make up the product. Under frames, faceplates and mechanisms, these elements form a separate group. A picture does not always reveal whether an offer is a complete set or just one component. Note the functions needed, the number of positions and their arrangement; then compare the stated contents of each chosen item.

A workspace may combine mains power, a network connection and device charging. Explore sockets and outlets by their intended use instead of gathering mechanisms that look alike. When the furniture layout changes, furniture sockets and floor boxes raise other questions: where there is room for the housing, how it can be reached and where the cables will run. The opening dimensions and clear space matter just as much as the visible surface.

When the power point needs to move

When equipping a desk or temporary workspace, explore power strips and extension leads. Note the length needed, the number of planned devices and where the product will sit. Pay attention to the spacing between outlets if plugs or adapters are bulky. A switch, an additional port and the stated protective features are separate characteristics; the presence of one does not imply the others.

For a switch that controls a particular appliance, keep the required function on the list. A dimmer, a water heater switch and a conventional light switch should not be chosen on colour alone. Note the intended use and exact range so you compare suitable versions within the relevant group.

Plan the distribution board from the inside out

The enclosure and the equipment play different roles in the purchase. For electrical enclosures, compare the mounting method, dimensions and stated capacity against the prepared project. An equipped product and an empty enclosure do not contain the same things. Doors, cable entry points and included mounting parts also deserve a check before choosing a particular model.

The enclosures and electrical equipment section has separate groups for circuit breakers, fuses, residual current devices, surge protection, relays and motor control. These are different product groups whose purposes cannot be inferred from similar housings. Selecting protective devices and their specifications is a specialist's task according to the installation. For the purchase, prepare the exact designations from that specialist's list and list the assembly accessories separately so they are not lost among the main devices.

Follow the cable route step by step

When a cable needs to reach one point from another, look at the entire route. Are there bends, transitions between rooms, sections behind furniture or areas with limited access? Cable routing and installation materials include conduits, trunking, trays, boxes and fixings. Choosing between them starts with the planned method and conditions at the location, while the specific dimensions follow the route required.

For cable trunking and accessories, count not only the straight sections but also the places that need the corresponding transition or end pieces. For a conduit system, examine the available accessories for the chosen range separately. Mounting and junction boxes are compared according to the mounting surface, shape and space for the intended application. This allows the list to reflect the actual location rather than contain only the main material.

For a room with finished floors and furniture, mark the reference points on a simple sketch. Show the starting and finishing points, box positions and visible sections. This helps you compare the external dimensions of the chosen products and separate decorative preferences from the limits of the space.

Cable, connection and identification are separate choices

The cables and connections category includes power conductors, signal and control cables, ferrules, cable joints, terminals and cable glands. The name of the general group is not enough to justify replacing one item with another. For a specified cable, retain its full designation; for a connector or ferrule, compare the exact types and sizes it is intended for.

Prepare separate lines for terminals and quick connectors and the installation accessories needed. Also establish the unit of sale and package contents: a length, a single piece and a set are not interchangeable quantities. For several cables, consider cable identification when preparing the shopping list. The type of marking, where it will be read and its suitability for the chosen identification system all matter.

Power starts with the device's requirements

For a power supply unit, prepare the details of the device to be powered and the intended location of the unit. Compare the stated input and output specifications, output type, dimensions and mounting method. For an LED power supply or driver, follow the requirements of the particular lighting; the same general application does not establish compatibility between arbitrary models.

For batteries and rechargeable batteries, start with the designation in the appliance or its manual. Shape alone is not enough to make a choice. If considering a charger, check which batteries it explicitly supports. For a UPS or portable power station, describe which devices you intend to use and their requirements before comparing individual offers.

Measurement and specialist systems

Electricity meters and energy meters are part of the electrical supplies selection. Establish what the device needs to measure, where it will be installed and how you will read its measurements. Compare only functions stated for the particular model. A similar appearance does not indicate its connection method or suitability for the planned installation.

Charging stations and solar components, along with earthing and lightning protection, require a separate technical specification. Gather the project designations and accessory list rather than adding them by analogy with an ordinary socket. Before ordering, review each item by model, quantity, completeness and role in the project. A clear list allows a missing detail to be identified without changing the technical solution.

When renovating several rooms, group the items by room and combine identical products by their exact code. This keeps different colours, frames or versions from becoming mixed in the total quantity. Leave a note beside each unconfirmed item so it can be clarified before the final choice.
