Sensors and detectors

Choose a sensor or detector according to the information it needs to provide: movement, presence, light conditions or another specific event. Then check how its signal is used by the lighting, controller or connected system in the project.

Three areas according to the task

For response to a person in a space, explore motion and presence detectors. Compare the purpose, mounting and described range of the specific model. Height and intended layout must remain part of the check. Do not use the longest displayed distance as a general characteristic of all devices or a guarantee for every direction.

For control according to lighting conditions, use light sensors. Distinguish a standalone device, separate photocell and kit for a particular control. Check the exact combinations and offer contents. A sensing element and main module may be separate items that must be checked against each other.

Linked events and measurements

In smart sensors , start with the intended purpose and ecosystem. Check communication, the required gateway or controller and supported events. A general connectivity term does not prove compatibility between different manufacturers. If the sensor will trigger another device, also check its permissible actions in the selected configuration.

The sensor and actuator have different roles

For the device that performs a command, explore Smart control or Lighting control. Do not assume every sensor includes the control output required or can connect directly to any load. Check power supply, output function and system dependencies by exact model. For a replacement, record the sensor model and controls that will remain. Check connections and dependencies separately instead of assuming a similar new sensor performs every function of the old one.

You then compare an actual link between detection and action, rather than just similar housings or general sensor designations.
